About Al Campbell

Al Campbell (born in Brisbane and still trying to get out!) is an Australian writer. Her debut novel, The Keepers, was published by the University of Queensland Press (UQP) in February 2022.

The Keepers was nominated for both the Fiction Book Award and the People’s Choice/The Courier-Mail Queensland Book of the Year award at the 2022 Queensland Literary Awards.

Al won a Queensland Writers Fellowship at the 2023 Queensland Literary Awards.

Al’s work has appeared in Overland, Signs of Life – an anthology, The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age and The Guardian.

As part of 2022’s Sydney Writers’ Festival, political journalist and television commentator, Annabel Crabb, selected The Keepers as her favourite book of the year. Their hour-long conversation can be found on the Sydney Writers’ Festival podcast.

A long-ago actor and voice-over artist, Al is an experienced and engaging public speaker, regularly appearing at literary festivals, corporate and academic events.
